YOUR QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

For Hosts & Guests

Swapping on nKoto remote is straightforward and flexible. You can either arrange a direct swap, where you and another member stay in each other’s homes simultaneously, or an indirect swap, where another member stays at your place in exchange for your future stay. The key is to communicate clearly with your swap partner to coordinate dates, preferences, and any specific needs.

This is something you’ll need to arrange with your swap partner. Some members are happy to take care of plants or pets as part of the exchange, while others may prefer not to. It’s best to clearly outline any responsibilities and expectations in your initial discussions, ensuring everyone is on the same page. On your profile page, ensure that you have noted that you have pets.

You don’t need to own your home to participate in house swapping, but you should have the right to allow someone else to stay there. If you’re renting, it’s important to check your lease agreement and possibly get your landlord’s approval before arranging a swap. We encourage transparency to avoid any complications.

Bringing pets depends on the specific rules set by the host. Some members welcome pets, while others may have restrictions due to allergies or personal preferences. Always check the listing details for pet policies, and if in doubt, reach out to the host directly to discuss your pet’s needs and ensure their stay will be as comfortable as yours.

We recommend that each party has a video chat before a swap where you can do a virtual walk through the other’s home. If you arrive at a property and find that it doesn’t match the description or photos provided, we encourage you to first communicate directly with the host to resolve the issue.

If the problem persists or is severe, you can reach out to nKoto remote’s support team for assistance. We take these matters seriously and will work with both parties to find a satisfactory solution.

We encourage all members to treat each other’s homes with respect. We recommend discussing potential issues with your guest beforehand and ensuring that your home insurance covers home-swapping scenarios. However, accidents can happen. In the unlikely event that your property is damaged, document the damage and contact us immediately. Our team will work with you to make things right.

We highly recommend that all members have a homeowners insurance policy for coverage\. We’re happy to share recommendations if you’re uncovered.

We strongly advise that all communication and swap arrangements be made through our app. This ensures that both parties are protected under our terms of service, and it allows us to provide support if needed. If someone contacts you outside the app, politely suggest continuing the discussion within the platform.

No, you are under no obligation to agree to a swap. If a proposed swap doesn’t fit your schedule or preferences, it’s perfectly okay to decline. We encourage members to communicate openly and honestly about their needs and to only commit to swaps that they feel comfortable with.

While not required, some members find it helpful to create a simple agreement that outlines the terms of the swap, including dates, responsibilities, and any specific arrangements. This can help prevent misunderstandings and provide a clear reference if any issues arise.

We believe that home swapping is based on respect and trust. Each guest and host should communicate fully and express expectations and limitations.  However, we can understand how it can be nerve wracking to leave your home with complete strangers especially when you are just starting off. In these cases, you can draft a home swap agreement template.

Your swap partner is expected to take care of your home as if it were their own. This includes respecting your belongings, keeping the place clean, and following any specific instructions you’ve provided (such as watering plants or feeding pets, if previously agreed upon). To ensure peace of mind, it’s helpful to have a conversation about expectations before the swap.

If you encounter any issues during your stay, the first step is to contact the host directly to discuss the problem. Most hosts will be eager to help resolve any issues quickly. If the situation cannot be resolved, or if it’s an emergency, you can contact our support team for further assistance.

Starting with nKoto remote is easy. Begin by creating a profile and listing your home on the platform, complete with photos and a detailed description. Browse other members’ listings, and when you find a place you’re interested in, send a swap request. Communicate with potential swap partners to coordinate the details, and once everything is agreed upon, prepare your home for your guest and get ready to enjoy your trip!

Logistics

In an indirect swap, you stay at another member’s home without them necessarily staying at yours at the same time. Instead of a one-for-one exchange, you earn credits for hosting other members, which can be redeemed for stays at different homes in the nKoto remote network. This flexible system allows you to travel when it suits you, without needing to coordinate dates precisely.

The length of your stay at a member’s house can vary depending on what you and your host agree upon. Typically, stays range from a few days up to three months to comply with the visa requirements and local regulations of European countries.

We recommend discussing and confirming the duration in advance through the app’s messaging feature to ensure both parties are comfortable with the arrangement.

No, we operate on a non-monetary basis. Instead of payment, you earn credits that can be used to stay at other members’ homes. This system encourages a sense of community and mutual trust among members, focusing on the exchange of experiences rather than financial transactions.

The only payment required is the membership fee plus any insurances necessary.

In the case of an emergency during a swap, your safety and well-being are the top priority. Contact local emergency services immediately (we have the numbers on our city page), and then inform us support as soon as possible. We recommend sharing key emergency contact information, including your own, with your guest before the swap to ensure everyone is prepared.

When requesting a swap, it’s important to be polite and clear. Start by introducing yourself and expressing your interest in their home. Mention why you’re interested in visiting their area and suggest possible dates for the swap. It’s also helpful to share a little about your home and why it would be a great place for them to stay.

Home insurance policies can vary widely, so it’s essential to check with your provider to ensure that your policy covers home swapping. We are currently looking to add insurance with our membership packages, but for now, we recommend that you have home owners insurance so that your policy includes protection against potential damages or issues that could arise during a swap.

When it comes to home insurance, the key points to remember are: ensure your policy covers home swaps, verify whether it includes liability for guest injuries, and understand what is and isn’t covered regarding potential damages. It’s always a good idea to inform your insurer of your home swap plans to avoid any surprises.

Before a swap, it’s a good idea to secure or remove any valuable items from your home. While our members are trusted, it’s always wise to take precautions. Consider using a safe, storing items with a friend, or moving them to a secure location in your home. Communicate with your guest about any areas or items that are off-limits.

Yes! Home swapping can be a great way to save money while traveling. By staying in a member’s home instead of booking a hotel or rental, you can significantly reduce accommodation costs. Additionally, having access to a kitchen allows you to save on dining expenses, and staying in a home often provides a more authentic, comfortable travel experience.
